Food: TGIF! Lovely fall we’re having. Warm up with chicken pot pie soup or chili at The Cookie Jar on Phillips Avenue, or stop in to Roy & Bobbi’s at the YMCA before their closing date to enjoy today’s special, hamburger and fries.
Event: Soak up the last bit of summer fun and head out to The Liebrary this weekend for outdoor concerts in the parking lot at 57th and Marion. Phantom Balance will perform tonight, along with rappers Carnage, Prhym8 and Freewryte. On Saturday, Unlimited Gravity will take the stage, along with Boss Miller, True Livin and Sunshine + Foster Child. Tickets are $10 for each show or $12 for both nights.
Saturday, Aug. 17
Food: Pizza date night at Tomacelli’s! Enjoy a glass of wine or beer with your dinner of build-your-own pizza, calzones or wings. Consider the buffet at Boss’ Pizza on Minnesota as well.
Event:The American Heart Association Heart Walk will begin at 8 a.m. at Falls Park. All are welcome to walk either a 1- or 3-mile route around the Falls, including teams of local companies as well as resident families. The morning will also include a Heart Festival, which includes inflatables, balloon twisters, refreshments, educational booths and free blood pressure screenings. The walk is free, and anyone is welcome to participate.
Also going on, Sioux Falls PRIDE will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at the McKennan Park band shell today. The afternoon will include drag shows, singing, food, various booths and vendors and kids games and activities, all in support of the LGBTQA Community and sponsored by The Center for Equality and Wells Fargo. The family event is free.
Sunday, Aug. 18
Food: Brunch at Bracco is served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes all the breakfast trimmings, along with grouper nuggets, pastas, fruits and desserts aplenty.
Event: Summer is winding down, and the kids are heading back to school, so choose to spend an afternoon at Newton Hills State Park today. Pack a picnic, bring the bikes or hike the 3-mile loop for an afternoon workout. If you want to stick closer to home, go fishing or on a hike at Family Park, which is north of 12th Street on the Tea/Ellis Road, or take a hike at Good Earth State Park at Blood Run in southeast Sioux Falls.
Also going on, if you’re up for the quick trip, Yankton is hosting its annual Riverboat Days and Summer Arts Festival this weekend. Festivities include music, entertainment, art, food and a kayak race on Sunday. Visit riverboatdays.com for more information.
