Consider mentoring local students

Ever thought about mentoring students in your community? You should. It’s awesome, the students love it and it seriously feels good to take a break from the office to spend some time with kiddos.

The Sioux Falls School District has been hosting a few Mentor Try-It Day sessions, giving people an opportunity to see whether this is something they would like to consider. The one-hour event brings together students and would-be mentors for pizza and games. After you’ve been paired off with a student and spent some time with them, you’ll be given information about the school-based mentor program and left to decide if this program is right for you. If you decide to begin mentoring, you’ll meet with your student for one hour once a week for lunch and activities, which can include reading, games, computer time, etc.

If you’re interested, Anne Sullivan Elementary will offer a Mentor Try-It Day from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1; and Brandon Elementary will host from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. RSVP by calling 221-2403 or emailing mentoring@lsssd.org.
