Tonight on the Town: Weekend Edition

Friday, Jan. 25
Event: TGIF! Head out to Great Bear Recreational Park tonight and join a kickoff party for the 24th annual Media One FunSki, taking place this weekend. The party will begin at 6:15 p.m. and include live music by Condor. Other activities tonight include at snow sculpture contest at 5 p.m., snow tube races at 7 p.m. and Rail Jam at 7 p.m. The fundraiser for Children’s Inn will continue 9 a.m. Saturday with cross country ski races, kickball, slalom, Zipfy sled races and Downhill Corporate Cup.

Saturday, Jan. 26
Food: Celebrate Mardi Gras at Phillip’s Avenue Diner this weekend. The downtown restaurant offers a hearty jambalaya with cajun-smoked andouille sausage, cajun cream sauce and veggies and is served four different ways: blackened beef and asparagus for $10.50, spicy pork and andouille for $10.50, blackened chicken for $9.50 and creole-seared shrimp for $11. Don’t leave without a chocolate malt! Obviously.

Event: Dakota Spirit 12th annual Valentines Classic Cheer and Dance Competition, Sioux Falls Convention Center, 1101 N. West Ave., Saturday-Sunday; two-day event hosts 160 of the top cheer and dance teams from the region; event kicks off 8 a.m. Saturday with small dance ensembles, dance individuals and cheer individual competitions; all club cheer events will begin 9 a.m. Sunday; $10 adults ages 18 and older, $6 ages 5-17 and free for ages 4 and younger; 367-4100

Sunday, Jan. 27
Food: Crawford’s on Phillips Avenue is open 10 a.m. to close on Sundays and offers a decadent brunch menu, including a Bloody Mary bar. They also offer live music on Sunday nights.

Event: The El Riad Shrine will host its annual Steel Drum Bean Bag Tourney today. Beginning at noon, the event will feature food, drinks and prizes and is $20 per team. Call 336-1117 to sign up.
