Oscar noms announced Thursday morning
Along with the 70th annual Golden Globes airing 7 p.m. Sunday on NBC, the Oscar nomination announcements are another sure sign that my beloved awards season is finally under way. Yessss.
The Academy Award nominations will be announced 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning, and for the first time in 40 years, the Oscar host, which is Seth MacFarlane, will reveal nominations. He will be joined by darling Emma Stone.
Anxious to hear who will take the big tickets? Considering it seems as though all the award-worthy films were released at the last minute of 2012, I feel like I have a lot of work to do before the end of February. And I’m totally OK with doing nothing but watching great films for next couple months.
“Argo,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Les Miz,” “Lincoln,” “Life of Pi,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” and “Silver Linings Playbook” all have gotten Oscar buzz and have been well received so far with the Golden Globe nominations and People’s Choice. For the record, is it me or were a lot of good movies in 2012 also quite serious? Surely, Oscar always falls for the dramas, but I dare say another light-hearted, fun silent film (Oscar winner “The Artist” in 2011) in the mix this year would have been nice.
The 85th annual Academy Awards will be presented Feb. 24 in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (now there’s my light-hearted fun!) will present the Golden Globes on Sunday.
