Tonight on the Town: Weekend Edition!

Happy Friday! Check out events going on in the area this weekend (did someone say fair?), and also find some hot dinner spots as well. Have a great weekend!

Friday, Aug. 3

Food: TGIF! Tinner’s Bar & Grill on 69th and Minnesota is celebrating the Summer Olympics through Aug. 12 by offering an all-American meal! Enjoy a cheeseburger and fries for $7.95, and finish off your dinner with homemade apple pie a la mode for $2.50. Coming in for happy hour? It is Friday, after all. Enjoy top shelf two-fers from 2-6 p.m. and 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Events: It’s time for corn dogs, cotton candy, 4-H shows, concerts and rides, the Sioux Empire Fair at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds begins tonight! The Midway opens at 5 p.m. and rock band Shinedown will perform in the Grandstands beginning at 7 p.m.

It’s also First Friday tonight, featuring new exhibits at the downtown galleries, live music by street musicians Kacie Fodness at Bros Brasserie and Holly VandenBerg at Lucky’s and horse and carriage rides available from 6-8:30 p.m. A free summer block party also will be held at the 8th & Railroad Center parking lot from 6-10:30 p.m., which will include live music by The Fortuitous and Avian Sunrise, a Battle for the Arts competition, food vendors and beer and wine for purchase.

Saturday, Aug. 4

Food: Make it a date night, and enjoy one of Crawfords’ dinner features for the week! Try their Salmon Tamari for $22, featuring pepper-crusted salmon over fried eggplant and a curried noodle cake and finished with a lemon-herb vinaigratte, or go for the Citron Tuna for $19, a six-ounce pan-seared ahi tuna served over mango-citrus rice and finished with a orange glaze. Can’t make it in tonight? Stop by Sunday for dinner, where they also host live music starting at 6 p.m.

Events: The Sioux Falls Roller Dollz will skate against the Cheyenne Capidolls tonight at The Multi-Cultural Center! The bout begins at 7 p.m. The Roller Dollz are a skater-owned and operated, not-for-profit organization and a member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. Tickets are $12 and free for ages 10 and younger. Good luck, Dollz!

Enjoy all kinds of summer activities during the annual Outdoor University at The Outdoor Campus today! From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., families are welcome to try archery, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, air rifle shooting, wild game cooking and cleaning and more. There’ll be a game zone for kids to play, booths set up and demonstrations throughout the afternoon, and the event is free!

Sunday, Aug. 5

Food: Catch some of the Olympics at Champps during lunch today, and try their new Guac Burger! The new signature entree is topped with melted pepperjack cheese, homemade guacamole, pico de gallo, cilantro and lettuce and served with fries for $10.29. The sports bar also has begun serving gyros now as well. The fresh pitas are filled with sliced lamb and beef, tomatos, onion and lettuce and topped with a fresh cucumber sauce for $10.49.

Event: Icon Lounge on Main Avenue will begin hosting Movie Night on Sundays! Cinema Falls will present the film “Derby Baby” tonight, with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and the film beginning at 6:30. You can get your tickets at Enjoy the show!
